Dames, heren en iedereen daartussenin: het baanbrekende House of Vineyard neemt Venlo over! Vier de feestdagen met ons, samen met vrienden, geliefden en chosen family, tijdens een avond vol hot queer performances, live acts en een mini ball function onder leiding van Legendary Mother Amber ‘Ambiance’ Vineyard.

Er zijn twee manieren om de ball mee te maken: je komt aanmoedigen of gaat zelf de vloer op. Hoe dan ook: we dossen ons allemaal uit en laten zien wat we in huis hebben!

Samen creëren we de ruimte. Wees present, chant, schreeuw, moedig aan en vier queer expressie terwijl deelnemers in verschillende categorieën de vloer op gaan en alles geven!

We organiseren vijf workshop avonden in Venlo begeleid door Legendary Mother Amber Vineyard, pionier van de Dutch Ballroom Scene, en andere leden van House of Vineyard. OTA, Open To All
Iedereen is welkom, ongeacht ervaring, leeftijd, genderidentiteit, seksuele oriëntatie en achtergrond. Maar vergis je niet wiens ‘house’ dit is. Als ally (bondgenoot) ben je te gast en gasten respecteren de ‘house’. Dat betekent ruimte maken voor queer en trans personen, voor de deelnemers en voor de cultuur waaruit deze avond is ontstaan.

History of ballroom / DBS
Ballroom ontstond in de jaren zestig in Harlem, New York, voor en door Zwarte en Latinx trans vrouwen en queer personen, na decennia van uitsluiting bij racistische schoonheidswedstrijden. Zij organiseerden hun eigen balls, waar queer en trans personen van kleur centraal stonden en werden gevierd. Tijdens een ball wordt er tegen elkaar gestreden in verschillende categorieën, zoals runway, realness en performance. Deze categorieën fungeren als codes: ‘realness’ draait om overleven binnen machtsstructuren, terwijl ‘runway’ staat voor het claimen van ruimte.

In 2013 organiseerde Amber Vineyard de eerste ball in Nederland. Een jaar later richtte ze The Living Room en House of Vineyard op, het eerste ballroom house van Nederland. Houses zijn groepen mensen die elkaar als 'familie' hebben gekozen en bieden een veilige thuisbasis waar ruimte is voor ieder individu.

There are two ways to be part of the ball. You can come to cheer or you can come to walk. Either way, we're all dressing up and we're all showing down!

We create the space together. Be in the room, chant, scream, cheer, celebrate queer expression as participants take the floor in different categories and let it all out

At The Living Room workshops we begin where you are. Five workshop evenings in Venlo, guided by Trailblazing Mother Amber Vineyard of the Dutch Ballroom Scene and other members of House of Vineyard. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience, gender identity, sexual orientation or background. But make no mistake about whose house this is. If you're an ally, you're here as a guest, and guests respect the house. Respecting the house means making room for queer and trans people, for the walkers, and for the culture that built this night.

History of ballroom / DBS
Ballroom was created for and by Black and Latinx trans women and queer people in 1960s Harlem, after decades of exclusion from racist pageants. They held their own balls, where queer and trans people of colour were centred and celebrated. During a ball, participants compete in various categories, including runway, realness and performance. The categories are codes: realness is about surviving the code of power, runway is about claiming space.

In 2013, Amber Vineyard threw the first ball in the Netherlands and established The Living Room and House of Vineyard a year later, the first ballroom house in the Netherlands. Houses are groups of people who have chosen each other as family, providing a safe home where there is space for every individual.
