Come. See. Hear. Feel. FAITH
FAITH makes you feel that faith is more than just a personal conviction. It is a source of trust, inspiration and connection. After Islands of Empathy and Fortune, FAITH is the latest performance in The Human Odyssey series. In which Club Guy & Roni brings together different cultures and worldviews, clashes and shows the deep human connection through an explosion of live music and spectacular choreography.
Gnawa music, often associated with trance and lila rituals, sends the performers into a sensitive exploration of faith. To a spiritual world from which we in the West may have drifted somewhat away. What is still around us that we cannot see but can only feel? The coming together of nine dancers and five musicians from the Netherlands and Morocco makes FAITH a poignant intercultural performance that searches for a common ground that is essential for a shared faith in the future.
One of the sources of inspiration for FAITH are the Moroccan roots of Guy Weizman's family. These are in Casablanca, in the same neighbourhood where Khalid Benghrib grew up. As contemporaries, they could have met, but life turned out differently. Now they come together in FAITH.
Contempory dance choreographer Khalid Benghrib's influence is palpable in his approach to dance as a total experience. He was taught by grandmasters of dance: Colette Milner, Lahcen Zinoun, Karin Weiner, Christine Gérard. With this baggage, he founded 2k_far with Loren Palmer. They create choreographies based on the idea that dance is the way to talk about life.
His work was previously shown in the Netherlands at the Spring performing arts festival, and at Dancing on the edge. The theatre newspaper described his earlier work from gnawa music with Lila rituals as virtuosic, and an exciting tribute to his cultural roots. With unparalleled precision and her characteristic tight choreography, Roni Haver makes the connection from spiritual forms within FAITH. Together, Weizman, Haver and Benghrib create an immersive mosaic of different physical, cultural and spiritual approaches to faith.
The final mosaic piece lies with the viewer.
Come. See. Hear. Feel.
