Youth Fund
Three out of four children disappeared from the theatre. When we faced those hard figures in 2022, we were shocked. Only 15% of youth still attended a theatre performance that year. Before corona, the figure was still 59%. While we were just recovering as a cultural sector, something much more fundamental was looming: a generation that would miss out on the magic of theatre.
And so we asked ourselves at Maaspoort: what can we do? From our greatest strength. The answer was *trump* Good for Each Other. This Youth Fund.
A movement that was overwhelmingly supported from moment one by partners, funds, companies and involved visitors.
A movement that makes it possible for all children up to the age of 12 to go to the theatre. Maaspoort was the first theatre in the Netherlands where they can go to the theatre free of charge. In the meantime, many theatres in the Netherlands have followed this initiative.

’s mission: Theatre for everyone. A new generation of theatre-goers. Children who grow up with theatre and bring their parents along – rather than the other way round.
A city where every child has the chance to enrich their lives, regardless of income, background or neighbourhood. To achieve precisely that, since 2023 the theatre has also been open free of charge to all primary schools in the region. That way, we can be sure that every child is reached. Because every child goes to school. To this end, a special educational programme is put together each year, and the schools where theatre visits are least commonplace are given the highest priority.
The ‘Goed voor elkaar’ Youth Fund supports the creators and producers of youth theatre and helps ensure that theatre remains accessible to children and families. And in doing so, it’s doing a great job. All funds raised go entirely towards making theatre accessible free of charge to all children up to the age of 12.

Did you know?
You can also support the Youth Fund simply by paying for your children’s theatre tickets as normal. This helps keep the fund topped up, allowing us to continue the initiative for longer. In effect, you’re buying a ticket for another child who might not be able to afford it so easily.
