Dance, music and spoken word on defining your life path
Real freedom, what does that look like? In the youth care institution where he grew up, young talented choreographer and dancer Dalton Jansen often looked out of the window at the birds outside. They were free, but busy all day gathering their food. How would he fare himself when he was free later? Would he manage, out there in the outside world? In the DOX performance Birds, Dalton depicts the difficult road to adulthood for young people who cannot live at home.
Due to its success, the show Birds is back in theatres. In this 12-part performance full of dance, spoken word and music, you will be drawn into the experiences of a young person living in a youth care institution. Questions like; How do you deal with the future when you haven't had a safe home? Are you ready for society? And is society ready for you?
Volkskrant ★★★★ | "Birds is an honest, raw performance about a youth in youth care"
NRC ★★★★★★★★★★ "Birds is especially successful as a straightforward testimony in theatrical form, a plea for a system that puts the young person at the centre. Required reading for youth workers."
Parool |"With Birds, he convincingly stirs up discussion about much-needed systemic change."
