Robert North created this ballet in 2008, in his first season as ballet director at theatres in Krefeld and Mönchengladbach.Inspired by Tchaikovsky's music, the choreographer approaches the personality of this great composer, who is also important to the world of ballet.

Tchaikovsky's life was artistically fulfilled, but personal happiness was denied him - not least because the society of the time did not tolerate his homosexuality. Fate is his constant companion, personified by a dancer.

In his ballet, Robert North portrays Tchaikovsky as a child, as a young artist and as a mature, elderly man. What experiences shaped him? The early death of his mother, a short, unhappy marriage and finally the unusual pen pal with Nadezhda von Meck - women also play a role in Tchaikovsky's life. With a keen sense, Robert North manages to sensitively explore his protagonist's feelings and inner life through dance. The music reveals much, some things remain secret.
