Islands of Empathy (in a Sea of Chaos) is part of Club Guy & Roni's Human Odyssey, in which they explore different human feelings (love, fear, happiness, empathy) from a cross-cultural perspective and in collaboration with an international dance company. After travelling through Mexico, the theme for the performance and the partners and dancer to create the piece with were found.

In Islands of Empathy, Club Guy & Roni looks for how empathy can be a driving force in how we live together. In the Netherlands, we have learned as individuals to constantly be the best version of ourselves, as individuals and independent of the needs of others. When you need help, there is apparently something wrong with you. When you need help, there is apparently something wrong with you. A society where self-reliance is a recommendation and needing help is a sign of weakness. A society in which self-reliance is a recommendation. In Mexico, on the contrary, the collective seems to be paramount. With less government support, residents seem to rely more on each other. Movies and stories often tell us that when society collapses because of a disaster, for instance, people turn into selfish beasts, but in practice the exact opposite appears to be true. Compassion - contrary to what we sometimes think - is part of our basic human equipment. Islands of Empathy is about the feeling of wanting to belong to a community based on empathy

Club Guy & Roni creates contemporary, quirky and explosive dance theatre that is on the heels of current events. All performances are performed with newly composed, live music, with percussionists and musicians often also playing prominent roles on stage. Club Guy & Roni is characterised by striking dancers, distinctly different from each other, each playing their own role in the precise radar work laid out by choreographer Roni Haver.
