His playing has an inspiration that you unfortunately do not find enough in contemporary jazz.
The Ben van den Dungen Quartet pays tribute to the legendary saxophonist John Coltrane and his music, one of the most influential saxophonists of all time. He gained fame during his time with Miles Davis and his solo projects were a smash hit. The LPs 'Blue Trane' and 'Giant Steps' amazed friend and foe alike and were classics from the very beginning!
In the 1960s, 'Trane' formed a new quartet and took a new direction. An immediate change in 1960s jazz music was the result. Modal jazz was born with famous albums like 'Impressions' and 'A Love Supreme'. In this sparkling ode, the Ben van den Dungen Quartet presents a contemporary interpretation of a repertoire that has rightly been labelled 'classics'.
