Imagine a world where music can be experienced in dance and colour. Rhythmic bodies, lights and visual effects dominate in "Resonance", 20Hertz's new dance performance. This innovative production rediscovers music through a crossover between hip-hop dance and sign language, combined with a wide palette of visual stimuli. "Resonance" breaks through traditional perceptions of music and shows that it can not only be heard, but also felt, seen and interpreted. This makes the performance accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing theatre-goers too, and an enrichment for hearing visitors!
20Hertz is a professional dance company consisting of a diverse mix of hearing, hard-of-hearing and deaf dancers. Led by hearing-impaired choreographer Sharon Wesseling, the company brings unique, sensory performances to life. Sharon, recently nominated for the Dutch Dance Days' Innovation Award, was born virtually deaf as a child and underwent 14 operations that partially restored her hearing but affected her balance organ. Against the odds, she became world champion with her hip-hop team, among others, and graduated from the dance academy in 2019. However, her hearing ability continues to fluctuate: she cannot perceive low notes and high notes often come in more shrill than others. This unique perception of sound is at the heart of Sharon's inspiration and creates the basis for "Resonance". Together with the dancers, she explores the boundaries of sound and movement and how they can be experienced in new ways. The emphasis is on the visual and sensory aspects, making it accessible to everyone, regardless of hearing ability.
