De wonderlijke wereld van Frau Luna, waar vrijheid, liefde en fantasie de regels bepalen.
With Frau Luna by Paul Lincke, Opera Zuid brings an irresistible Berlin operetta to Dutch theatres. Director Steef de Jong makes his debut with Opera Zuid with this production and shows why this genre is alive and kicking. In an all-Dutch adaptation by Paulien Cornelisse, it features Frau Luna comes to life as an imaginative, playful and invigorating performance.
In Frau Luna, a group of young dreamers fall under the spell of the moon. They build an airship and go in search of the 'little man in the moon'. There they end up in the wonderful world of Frau Luna, where freedom, love and fantasy set the rules. Old conventions disappear, new desires blossom and nothing is what it seems. Or...does the moon world turn out to be an imaginative reflection of earthly life after all?
Steef de Jong deliberately opts for a visible theatre illusion: with cardboard, strings and inventive theatrical inventions, the singers build a complete (moon) world on stage. 'I enjoy creating a world at odds with our own. Especially at a time when you get sick of all the misery, there is a growing need for lightness, lightness, joy, rising - literally to the moon! In this respect, the song Ist die Welt auch noch so schön gets to the heart of the operetta: one day the world will end, so you'd better dance and sing now!'
The energetic, timeless music, with swinging marching rhythms and cabaret-like influences is provided by Philzuid, led by musical director Enrico Delamboye.
