Two everyday objects: one from the present, the other from the past. In one hand, your mobile phone; in the other, an unfamiliar cassette tape. You walk towards a cassette player hidden somewhere in the city, eventually discovering the special stories recorded on this tape. All the whilst, musicians and extras cross your path.

‘Bandje Bandje’ is a site-specific performance that unfolds into a surprising walking route.
Brimming with moving stories from residents from Belgian Limburg and the southern Netherlands about their cherished cassettes. 
Featuring actress Joke Emmers, voice actors  Sien Eggers, Olga Zuiderhoek & Michiel Neyrinck
(Live) musicians Emil Szarkowicz Rik Cornelissen & Visjal Auwerx. 

Bandje Bandje features six unique walking routes, each with its own story, which takes on a different flavour at every performance venue. You’ll hear local stories from residents of Belgian Limburg and the southern Netherlands. Stories that often don’t make it into the major history books, but certainly deserve to be heard. In this exclusive performance, the cassette plays the leading role: invented in the former Dutch Philips factory in Hasselt, Flanders (now the Corda Campus). Have we perhaps lost something in our heavenly paradise where everything is on demand?

Bandje Bandje stems from the Bandjesbus, which received a great deal of media attention last year. In response to our public appeal asking people to bring their cherished cassettes to the Bandjesbus, we received over 100 cassettes and personal stories. These stories form the basis and inspiration for this performance.

Good to know: 

• There are a limited number of places per performance (for 18 people). The performance starts at various times throughout the day.
• There are 6 different walking routes, each with its own unique story.
• Each route takes approximately 50 minutes.
• You experience the audio tour on your own.
• Your ticket is valid for one of the six routes.
• Would you like to experience more than one route on the same day? Book and purchase a new ticket with a different start time. (Please note: ensure there is at least one hour between the two start times so that the tours do not overlap).
