All-round stage technician | 28 hours
The auditorium is full; the performer is waiting in the wings. The lighting is set, the sound has been checked and the set is in place. The performance is about to begin and, behind the scenes, a whole team is making sure everything runs smoothly. You don’t create that moment on your own. It takes a whole team. And that team is looking for you!
This is Maaspoort
We are the largest theatre in North and Central Limburg. Three auditoriums: 750, 350 and 150 seats. Four meeting rooms, a Restobar, a rooftop bar, a hotel and foyers. Each season, we host around 300 performances and concerts and 100 amateur productions, plus 400 business meetings and events. A conference on a Monday, a sold-out pop concert on a Friday and a children’s show on a Sunday afternoon. No two days are the same here. And that’s exactly the point. At Maaspoort, we believe: anything is possible here.
What you’ll be doing
As an all-round stage technician, you’ll help with the technical preparation and execution of performances, concerts, conferences and events. Usually at Maaspoort, but sometimes also on location around the city. You’ll work with lighting, sound, video, set design and/or the fly system. One day you might be setting up a lighting rig; the next, you might be supporting a theatre production or ensuring that a conference runs smoothly from a technical perspective. You don’t need to be a specialist in every area. Above all, we believe it’s important that you have a solid technical foundation, can work independently and enjoy learning new things.
In practical terms, this means:
- You set up and dismantle technical installations and sets;
- You operate lighting, sound and/or video equipment during performances and events;
- You’ll independently manage the technical aspects of smaller productions and, for larger ones, work alongside a production manager and other technicians;
- You will support artists, companies and organisers with their technical requirements;
- You will work with our automated fly system once you have been trained and authorised to do so;
- You will help to maintain and inspect our technical equipment and installations;
- You will identify faults and contribute ideas for practical solutions;
- Together with your colleagues, you ensure a safe, tidy and well-organised working environment.
Do you have ideas on how things could be done more efficiently, safely or effectively? We’d love to hear them. At Maaspoort, you’ll be given the freedom to contribute ideas and take the initiative.
Opportunities for growth
At Maaspoort, you don’t need to know everything straight away. Perhaps you’re strong in sound, but want to learn more about lighting. Or maybe you have experience with events and want to develop further within theatre technology. We’ll help you broaden your knowledge and develop your own specialism. Through courses, training programmes and, above all, by working alongside experienced colleagues. Do you have the ambition and the skills to develop further? Then we offer you the opportunity to progress to become a stage technology specialist. You’ll also have the chance to learn how to take on the technical management of productions as a production manager. How quickly you progress depends on your development, your ambitions and the opportunities within our team.
What we’re looking for:
- Experience in stage technology, for example in a theatre, music venue, event venue or at a technical hire company;
- Do you have a different technical background but a strong affinity for stage technology?
If so, we’d also love to hear from you.
- Do you have a different technical background but a strong affinity for stage technology?
- Basic knowledge of lighting, sound and/or video, and the motivation to develop your skills in other disciplines as well;
- Technical insight and the ability to carry out tasks independently;
- A practical approach. You think in terms of solutions and remain calm when things don’t go to plan;
- Good communication skills. You work well with colleagues, performers and guests;
- An eye for safety and quality;
- A supportive attitude. You help others and are open to learning yourself.
This is a plus, not a requirement:
- A completed qualification in stage or event technology;
- Experience with the ETC EOS family and with A&H dLive or SQ;
- Knowledge of network structures and protocols within stage technology;
- First Aid, VCA and BMT (operation of mechanical fly systems);
- Experience of independently providing technical support for smaller performances or events;
- Experience with sound engineering, for example mixing live performances, concerts or events.
Do you have some of the skills on this list and want to learn the rest? Apply now! We’re keen to invest in people who want to grow!

Evenings and weekends
This work often takes place when others are off. You will therefore regularly work in the evenings and at weekends. That’s part and parcel of theatre life, but we also understand that you want to be able to make plans at home. That’s why we publish the rota four weeks in advance wherever possible. We also have a flexible system where you can indicate when you’d like to have time off. We try to take this into account as much as possible when drawing up the rota.
Why Maaspoort
We believe in the power of culture. Not as an afterthought, but as the foundation of a city. We inspire, amaze and move our guests, and none of that is possible without technology. Here, we celebrate culture and life. We dream big but stay practical. Courage, creativity and sincerity are our top priorities, and you’ll notice this just as much in the team as you do on stage. Together, we achieve more. Whether you’re helping to set up a performance, operating the lighting or sound, or managing the technical side independently, no two days are the same – and together we make it happen.
