The classic rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar is back, and how! In 2024, the musical can be seen in Limburg at Theater aan het Vrijthof Maastricht, Parkstad Limburg Theatres and De Maaspoort Theatre & Events in Venlo, respectively. Thanks to the unforgettable lyrics and music by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, the direction of internationally acclaimed director Ivo van Hove and a cast full of talent from home and abroad, the show promises to be the theatre experience of the year. Ticket sales start mid-March.

In Jesus Christ Superstar, we see how Jesus develops into the leader of a socially inspired group of friends, who stand up for people who have no voice in society. It leads to a new movement; a popular uprising. Get ready for a true theatrical spectacle, in which the original English repertoire will make more of an impression than ever with the help of a live orchestra and a unique setting.

Jeangu Macrooy performs role of Jesus
Producer Albert Verlinde recently announced that singer-songwriter Jeangu Macrooy will perform the coveted role of Jesus: "Jeangu is a fantastic singer with a great charisma. I believe him when he tells a story. Whether in song or in words." Director Ivo van den Hove is also impressed by the former Song Contest contestant, calling him "our dream protagonist." Macrooy is looking forward to this dream role: "It's a story everyone knows and the songs are fantastic. I've been a big fan of director Ivo van Hove's work for years and I think it's special to be able to work with him now." Furthermore, Freek Bartels and Magtel de Laat will also soon shine in the musical. They will play the roles of Judas and Mary respectively.

Practical information
The musical will be performed and sung entirely in English. It will premiere on 21 January 2024 at the DeLaMar Theatre in Amsterdam. After that, the show can be seen for 7 months in 23 theatres across the country.
