Seldom have you experienced his music so intensely
Symphonic Cinema, the unique concert form of filmmaker Lucas van Woerkum, has conquered Dutch and foreign concert halls in recent years. The film director makes his brilliant film stories on the basis of symphonic masterpieces of classical music, which are performed live. During the concert, he sits in the orchestra and subtly adjusts the images on the large film screen so that they run synchronously with the music. In this way, he creates a work of art in which image and sound merge into one. He has already had great success in this way with Stravinsky's The Firebird and Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé, in which he colours the story of the music in a beautifully poetic way
His latest film is The Echo of Being, which focuses on composer Gustav Mahler. The film script is based on biographical elements from the lives of Gustav, Alma and their little daughter Maria Mahler. It reflects on life, death and everything that comes after. Van Woerkum intertwines this with a collage of Mahler's most impressive music specially arranged by Thomas beijer winner of the Dutch Music Prize 2022. Rarely have you experienced Mahler and his music so intensely.
